Enterococci are bacteria used to indicate possible fecal contamination. Florida describes 0–35 per 100 mL as Good, 36–70 as Moderate, and 71 or more as Poor. These are periodic laboratory samples, not continuous monitoring.

The city traces its name to Dan Wheeler’s 1922 railway stop, which he named Neptune. In 1931, residents voted to separate from Jacksonville Beach and incorporate their own city after a dispute over taxes and services. The seaside community’s name and independence both grew out of practical local concerns.

Current ocean-beach fishing zones and restrictions still need confirmation with Neptune Beach Ocean Rescue. A Florida fishing license alone does not establish local permission to fish.
Shore fishing: licenses & responsible casting
Unless exempt, you need the appropriate Florida saltwater fishing license even when fishing from shore. Eligible Florida residents can obtain a no-cost shoreline license; nonresidents need a nonresident saltwater license unless an exemption applies. A license does not override local closures or swimming-area restrictions.
Check FWC’s current species, size, season and bag limits. Targeting sharks from shore has additional permit and gear requirements. Keep hooks and lines away from swimmers and wildlife, and take discarded tackle home.

A current general beach-entry opening/closing schedule was not established from the city sources reviewed. Parking, restroom and lifeguard schedules are separate. Follow posted access closures.

- Year-round; leash required
Physical leash up to 12 feet; carry cleanup supplies and remove waste immediately. A current rabies tag is required. Visits over 30 minutes require drinking water and shade. An accompanied ocean swim has a narrow off-leash exception; walking in water and tide pools do not qualify. Re-leash before returning to the beach.

- Town Center: $2.50/hour
Public Town Center spaces charge daily 11 a.m.–midnight. Pay at the new kiosks or official on-site mobile-payment signs; the old Flowbird app is no longer used. Registered Neptune Beach residents receive up to four free hours per visit. This rate does not describe every residential beach access or private lot. Access ramps with disabled parking include Atlantic Boulevard, Lemon, Davis and Hopkins. Questions: 904-566-9410. Atlantic Beach’s 18th/19th Street lots are a separate program.
