The city explicitly permits surf fishing and recommends areas with few swimmers. Follow lifeguard directions and posted restrictions. The fishing pier is a separate facility.
Shore fishing: licenses & responsible casting
Unless exempt, you need the appropriate Florida saltwater fishing license even when fishing from shore. Eligible Florida residents can obtain a no-cost shoreline license; nonresidents need a nonresident saltwater license unless an exemption applies. A license does not override local closures or swimming-area restrictions.
Check FWC’s current species, size, season and bag limits. Targeting sharks from shore has additional permit and gear requirements. Keep hooks and lines away from swimmers and wildlife, and take discarded tackle home.

Permanent facilities: 2nd Ave N street end, 5th Ave N north side of pier lot, and 6th Ave S northwest side of Oceanfront Park lot. Portable toilet: 19th Ave N. The dedicated facilities page lists daily 10 a.m.–7 p.m. March–September and 9 a.m.–6 p.m. October–February; closed Christmas. Weather/events may change hours. This differs from the general FAQ’s winter opening days.

2026 season: March 6–November 1. Regular rate: then $2/hour, maximum $12; specified holiday/event weekends cost $15 flat. Paid hours: Friday 8 p.m.–Saturday 2 a.m.; Saturday 10 a.m.–Sunday 2 a.m.; Sunday 10 a.m.–midnight; weekday holidays 10 a.m.–midnight. Main lots include 14, 422 and 503 1st Street North, and 450 2nd Street North. Use card kiosks or posted QR payment; kiosks take no cash. Registered city residents park free. Overnight vehicles incur the next day’s fee when paid hours resume. City lists four disabled spaces per lot; check the linked exemptions. Oversized vehicles over 22 feet or 10,000 pounds are restricted in the central beach district. Private lots set their own rates.
