Accessibility: Entrance-specific; verify route endpoint. The county reported mats at Holly and Calhoun in June 2025, with an earlier mat at Pine. Free county beach wheelchairs are available by reservation for unincorporated Horry. Check current mat placement, endpoint and remaining sand gap; no uninterrupted route to water is asserted.

Fees & reservations
See the entrance section for parking and entry details and sources.
Restrictions & exceptions
Nudity including thongs is prohibited by current county visitor guidance. A separate current female-topless determination remains unresolved; a historical appendix is not presented as confirmed current law. Keep emergency accesses and turtle areas clear.
What this label covers
Source observation planning point only; not a beach boundary, continuous route or navigation waypoint. Source record LAST_UPDATE 2014-03-19. Generic observation label is not a verified modern entrance alias.

Beach ownership, the route across land, public shoreline-use rights and access to facilities are separate questions. Rules vary by state and location. Use the identified public entrance or documented permission; neither a nearby resort nor an admission fee by itself establishes that a beach is private. A mapped beach is not permission to cross private property.

Access policy reviewed 2026-10-09. Not a live closure report or a property-boundary survey.

Allowed & prohibited activities

Alcohol: Alcohol is prohibited on the beach and beach accesses.

Fires and grills: Beach fires, grills and Chinese lanterns are prohibited.

Overnight camping: Sleeping on the beach or public beach access is prohibited 9 p.m.–8 a.m.; booked campground lodging does not grant ordinary beach camping.

Shore fishing: Shark fishing from shore and piers is prohibited; recognized sharks must be released. A valid South Carolina fishing license is required for surf fishing.

Conditions at the beach

Local times use Eastern Time. Regional forecasts, tide predictions, observed flags and dated water samples are separate; no current beach safety status is asserted.

South Carolina SCDES beach monitoring ↗: exact station, sample and retrieval clocks must match this shore.

Weather, forecasts & tides

Use a current NWS Wilmington-area weather source with its observation and retrieval clocks. No entrance-level measured conditions are asserted.

NWS point forecasts are forecasts for their mapped area. Preserve issue, valid and retrieval times and Eastern Time; do not present them as measured entrance conditions.

An exact entrance tide reference and offset have not been established. Springmaid Pier is an official nearby monitoring reference in park and city guidance, not a tide-time offset for every Horry beach.

NWS Wilmington issues seasonal Surf Zone Forecasts with regional rip-current risk and surf hazards. Preserve issue and valid clocks and check current beach flags separately. The experimental Myrtle surf matrix explicitly says not for operational use and is not used as an entrance observation.

Closures, flags & water quality

The county September 9 notice says the 28-mile federal renourishment project finished August 15. Garden streetscape utility work was scheduled from September 8 near Cedar Avenue and northward, with lane closures. A later update postpones the groundbreaking ceremony, not the entire project or beach. Current individual access reopening and dated observed flags remain unverified.

SCDES issues advisories for individual monitoring locations and recommends checking the exact mapped advisory segment. Monitoring season is May 1–October 1; outside-season data do not receive temporary advisories. Preserve sample, advisory and retrieval times; no current sample or neighboring station is assigned here.
