Entry route, fees & access boundaries
- Manager / access authority
- South Carolina Department of Parks, Recreation & Tourism
- Access basis

- Where to enter
- Enter Myrtle Beach State Park at 4401 South Kings Highway and follow the park beach boardwalks. Park admission and capacity controls apply.
- Fees & reservations
- See the entrance section for parking and entry details and sources.
- Restrictions & exceptions
- The park states its beach is subject to Horry County beach rules. Current county guidance prohibits nudity including thongs; separate current female-topless scope remains unresolved. State-park access, dog, vehicle and pier safety restrictions also apply.
- What this label covers
- Source observation planning point only; not a beach boundary, continuous route or navigation waypoint. Source record LAST_UPDATE 2022-03-16. Generic observation label is not a verified modern entrance alias.
Beach ownership, the route across land, public shoreline-use rights and access to facilities are separate questions. Rules vary by state and location. Use the identified public entrance or documented permission; neither a nearby resort nor an admission fee by itself establishes that a beach is private. A mapped beach is not permission to cross private property.
Access policy reviewed 2026-10-09. Not a live closure report or a property-boundary survey.
Allowed & prohibited activities
Alcohol: State-park law prohibits alcohol, including beer and wine, except where specifically authorized by the Department. No beach authorization is established.
Fires and grills: State-park fires are allowed only in specifically designated places. A beach fire designation has not been established.
Overnight camping: Book an authorized park campsite or cabin. The existence of a campground does not authorize beach sleeping or camping on the sand.
Shore fishing: Surf anglers need a South Carolina saltwater fishing license and may not surf-fish where lifeguards are on duty. The separate park pier requires its paid fishing pass but no individual South Carolina fishing license; shark fishing from the pier is prohibited.
- Hours
- Hours & seasonal limits
The park gate is open daily 6 a.m.–10 p.m. March–November and 6 a.m.–8 p.m. December–February. Store, office and program clocks differ.
Myrtle Beach State Park · hours ↗ - Dogs on the beach
- Seasonal dates and hours; see this guide
Beach pets are excluded 10 a.m.–5 p.m. May 1–Labor Day. In permitted outdoor areas keep a leash no longer than six feet; cabins and cabin areas exclude pets.
Myrtle Beach State Park · dogs ↗ - Lifeguards
- Seasonal or section-specific; confirm duty
Lifeguards are limited to the beach north of the fishing pier. Current park pages disagree on the season: FAQ says Memorial Day–Labor Day; Things To Do says mid-May–mid-September. Confirm current dates and daily duty; neither source covers the whole beach.
Myrtle Beach State Park · lifeguards ↗ - Restrooms
- Entrance-specific public facilities
Beach boardwalks, outdoor rinse showers and nearby bathrooms/changing facilities are described by the park.

- Rules & restrictions
The park states its beach is subject to Horry County beach rules. Current county guidance prohibits nudity including thongs; separate current female-topless scope remains unresolved. State-park access, dog, vehicle and pier safety restrictions also apply.
Myrtle Beach State Park · public access rules ↗ - Beach driving
- Ordinary beach driving prohibited
State-park law prohibits motorized vehicles on beach areas except applicable official authority. A county winter golf-cart rule is not treated as state-park sand-entry permission. Park FAQ permits licensed and insured golf carts on paved roads only, with a licensed driver and no night operation; this is not a winter beach-driving authorization.

Conditions & activities Surf, sand, wildlife and suitability
Conditions at the beach
Local times use Eastern Time. Regional forecasts, tide predictions, observed flags and dated water samples are separate; no current beach safety status is asserted.
South Carolina SCDES beach monitoring ↗: exact station, sample and retrieval clocks must match this shore.
Weather, forecasts & tides
Use a current NWS Wilmington-area weather source with its observation and retrieval clocks. No entrance-level measured conditions are asserted.
NWS point forecasts are forecasts for their mapped area. Preserve issue, valid and retrieval times and Eastern Time; do not present them as measured entrance conditions.
The park directs visitors to Springmaid Pier as the nearest tide reference. NOAA indexed station metadata identifies 8661070 Springmaid Pier, SC. Prediction and measured water-level clocks remain separate; no entrance-specific time offset is established.
NWS Wilmington issues seasonal Surf Zone Forecasts with regional rip-current risk and surf hazards. Preserve issue and valid clocks and check current beach flags separately. The experimental Myrtle surf matrix explicitly says not for operational use and is not used as an entrance observation.

SCDES issues advisories for individual monitoring locations and recommends checking the exact mapped advisory segment. Monitoring season is May 1–October 1; outside-season data do not receive temporary advisories. Preserve sample, advisory and retrieval times; no current sample or neighboring station is assigned here.
