Parking & entry: Parking & arrival. Nonresident parking is charged March 1–September 7, 7 a.m.–5 p.m., at $3/hour weekdays and $5/hour weekends. Burkes beach parking at Chaplin starts May 18; sports parking is separate. Coligny public parking is free. Eligible resident permits and certain accessible/military parking exemptions have separate conditions. Digital payment is used; the payment window is not beach opening hours. Verify the current schedule before travel.
Parking source ↗Accessibility: Route & equipment details. The Town lists beach mats extending to hard-packed sand near the high-tide line. Their endpoint depends on tides and sand; they do not guarantee a continuous step-free route to the water. At listed wheelchair locations, book through the Town reservation system; the policy describes a $25 refundable card deposit and a two-day limit in seven days. Confirm equipment and collection arrangements before travel. A beach-wheelchair service at this entrance was not established; do not assume absence.

- What this label covers
- Town park/access map point; a planning reference, not surveyed beach boundaries or exact water-entry coordinates.
Beach ownership, the route across land, public shoreline-use rights and access to facilities are separate questions. Rules vary by state and location. Use the identified public entrance or documented permission; neither a nearby resort nor an admission fee by itself establishes that a beach is private. A mapped beach is not permission to cross private property.
Access policy reviewed 2026-10-08. Not a live closure report or a property-boundary survey.
Allowed & prohibited activities
Alcohol: Alcoholic liquor, beer and wine are prohibited on Town beaches/adjacent waters under the published rules. A nearby bar is not an exception.
Fires and grills: Fires and fireworks are prohibited on Town beaches. A park grill is a separate designated facility.
Overnight camping: The Town prohibits beach sleeping midnight–6 a.m.; no ordinary overnight beach camping permission is asserted.
Shore fishing: Shark fishing is prohibited. In designated swim areas, fishing/surfcasting is prohibited sunrise–sunset April 1–September 30; other shore fishing requires confirmation of exact location and license.

- Hours
- Opening details
The Town lists park opening 6 a.m.–10 p.m., daily, Eastern Time. Parking fee enforcement and guarded swimming hours are separate.
Burkes Beach · hours ↗ - Dogs on the beach
- Seasonal restrictions
Dogs follow seasonal beach hours: October–March, leash or voice control; April through the Thursday before Memorial Day and the Tuesday after Labor Day through September, leash 10 a.m.–5 p.m., otherwise leash or voice control. Friday before Memorial Day through Labor Day, dogs are excluded 10 a.m.–5 p.m. Do not enter designated swim areas where animals are excluded, and obey the separate year-round signed Fish Haul wildlife exclusion. Remove waste and do not harass wildlife. The current code contains seasonal wording discrepancies; confirm unusual boundary dates directly with the Town. The current enacted code differs from the operational Town page: its seasonal clause says 1 a.m.–5 p.m. through October 31, overlapping its October voice-control clause; routine September/October hours are therefore unresolved, not just holiday boundary dates. Confirm the exact date/time with the Town before bringing a dog.
- Lifeguards
- Seasonal guards
The Town lists seasonal lifeguards at this entrance. The official beach season is April 1–September 30; exact tower sections/hours and today’s duty must be checked separately.

Conditions at the beach
Local times use Eastern Time. Regional forecasts, tide predictions, observed flags and dated water samples are separate; no current beach safety status is asserted.
South Carolina SCDES beach monitoring ↗: exact station, sample and retrieval clocks must match this shore.
Weather, forecasts & tides
No exact on-beach weather observation is asserted. Regional forecasts and predictions are separate from observed conditions.
NWS Charleston provides regional weather and marine/beach-hazard guidance. Read the stated forecast area, valid time and local Eastern Time; it is not an observed beach condition.
Use an appropriate NOAA tide prediction for the actual shore and route. A nearby dock station is not exact beach timing or a safe crossing guarantee.
Consult NWS Charleston guidance for its stated coastal area. A forecast is not a locally observed warning flag.
Closures, flags & water quality
Check the managing authority’s current notices before travel. No saved page certifies same-day opening or an observed flag color.
No current bacteria sample is asserted without an exact beach station/segment and sample clock. A monitoring location, shellfish class or neighboring result is not today’s swimming safety.

Beachcombing
Do not remove living or occupied beach fauna. The Town’s rules protect live sand dollars, conchs, starfish and other wildlife; no beach-specific shell abundance score or broader collecting exception is invented.
No exact shark-tooth collecting evidence or productivity rating was established for this beach.
Snorkeling & scuba diving
No documented suitable shore-entry snorkeling route or typical underwater-visibility rating was established. Water color, bacteria samples and regional reviews are not visibility ratings. Nearby boat sightseeing does not establish offshore snorkeling.
No exact shore dive or local operator providing a documented offshore scuba/snorkeling departure for this beach was established. Commercial salvage and sightseeing are separate services.

Clothing-optional, nudity & topless sunbathing
Full nudity / clothing-optional: Nudity is prohibited under the Town’s published beach rules.
Female-topless sunbathing: Separate permission not established.
No positive clothing-optional or topless matcher tag is assigned without exact policy evidence. Remoteness, private resort access and a general nudity clause do not resolve separate topless permission.

Shore & sky wildlife
The Town’s coastal wildlife guidance identifies protected shorebirds and sea turtles. Do not chase birds, disturb nesting areas, remove living beach fauna or damage dunes; respect signed exclusions.

Water clarity & shore snorkeling
Typical clarity: Not yet assessed. Typical underwater visibility has not yet been established for this exact beach. Regional sediment descriptions, water color, dated construction impacts and bacteria samples are not a clear-water rating.
Shore snorkeling not yet assessed. No documented suitable shore-entry snorkeling route or typical underwater-visibility rating was established. Water color, bacteria samples and regional reviews are not visibility ratings. Nearby boat sightseeing does not establish offshore snorkeling.
Typical clarity describes how easily you may see through the water. It does not establish bacterial water quality, safe swimming, calm conditions or visibility today.
