Maryland: Beach days with dogs
These existing guide routes document dog permission. Leashes, hours, designated sections and seasonal restrictions still apply; park permission is not permission on every part of the sand.

- North East Beach Area, Elk Neck State Park
Cecil · North East Beach Road day-use beach entrance from Route 272
Leashed pets are welcome in the day-use area, but are excluded from the sandy swimming beach from Memorial Day weekend until after Labor Day. This seasonal sand exclusion does not mean the entire park is dog-free.
Entrance details and sources → - Hammerman Beach
Baltimore · Hammerman swimming-beach day-use arrival, 7200 Graces Quarters, Middle River
Leashed pets are welcome except on the sandy Hammerman swimming beach from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day. The concession stand, restrooms and playgrounds are also excluded.
Entrance details and sources → - North Point State Park Beach
Baltimore · North Point State Park designated water-access area, 8400 North Point Road, Edgemere
Leashed pets are allowed except on the sandy portion of the water-access area from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day.
Entrance details and sources → - Hart-Miller Island West-Shore Beach
Baltimore · Hart-Miller Island designated western beach by lawful personal-boat arrival
DNR’s pet policy permits leashed pets at Hart-Miller Island. This does not authorize entry to closed interiors, grant access to someone else’s boat or override current postings.
Entrance details and sources → - Assateague State Park Beach
Worcester · Assateague State Park day-use beach
Leashed pets may use the approximately one-mile hiker/biker path west of Campground Road, but not non-pet loops A–F. Day-use beach pets are allowed from Labor Day Monday through the Friday before Memorial Day. Registered campers with pets use loops G/H/I and adjoining beaches east of those loops and south toward the National Park. DNR’s separate actively-swimming leash exception remains limited to its published campground context; it is not extended to day-use or NPS shore.
Entrance details and sources → - Matapeake Beach
Queen Anne's · Matapeake Dog Beach via designated woodland trail
Dogs are excluded from the clubhouse, lawn and public swimming beach. At the separate Matapeake Dog Beach & Trail, dogs must be leashed except while playing in the water. Limit two dogs per handler; current vaccinations, ID collar and immediate waste pickup required.
