Accessibility: Boardwalk approach; sand and parking barriers. NPS describes Ocracoke Beach’s boardwalk and ramped bathhouse, but accessible-marked parking aisles have vegetation, a vertical lip up to two inches or traffic-crossing limitations. Beach chairs are first-come, returned by 4 p.m.; outside summer obtain one through a visitor center. Shifting sand may bury the boardwalk end; no continuous route to water is claimed.

What this label covers
Named visitor arrival only; no entrance coordinate, surveyed boundary or navigational waypoint claimed.

Beach ownership, the route across land, public shoreline-use rights and access to facilities are separate questions. Rules vary by state and location. Use the identified public entrance or documented permission; neither a nearby resort nor an admission fee by itself establishes that a beach is private. A mapped beach is not permission to cross private property.

Access policy reviewed 2026-10-11. Not a live closure report or a property-boundary survey.

Allowed & prohibited activities

Alcohol: Alcohol rules are not confirmed for this beach.

What still needs confirmation

The NPS compendium prohibits alcohol in visitor centers, museums, offices and government buildings. An exact additional beach restriction was not established; no unrestricted alcohol entitlement is claimed.

Fires and grills: Beach fires require a separate free NPS fire permit. May 1–November 15 fires are allowed only at specified sites including Ocracoke day-use; fires at other beach locations are not authorized in that season. Fires end by 10 p.m.; follow all exact permit conditions and closures. An ORV permit is not a fire permit.

Overnight camping: Camping is confined to designated NPS campgrounds with reservations and regulations; the day-use beach is not an authorized beach campsite.

Shore fishing: NC coastal license and NPS fishing restrictions apply. Fishing, surfboarding, smoking and glass containers are prohibited within designated swimming/lifeguard areas only when a guard is present from the Saturday of Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day Monday. This is not an all-beach year-round ban; respect closures and avoid casting through swimmers.
