VIRGINIA · WATERFRONT RESEARCH

Charles City County waterfront

Charles City County borders the James River to the south and the Chickahominy River to the east. A waterfront setting alone does not establish a beach arrival.

Riverfront parks and boating

Lawrence Lewis Jr. Park is a county riverfront reference with a boat ramp, fishing/birding pier, trails, shelters and a restroom area. The described facilities do not by themselves establish a designated beach or swimming area.

Lawrence Lewis Jr. Park’s primitive camping requires registration; a camping reservation is not blanket beach or water-entry permission.

Morris Creek provides DWR-managed boating and fishing access within Chickahominy WMA. The concrete ramp is a launch reference, not a bathing beach.

Wildlife management area rules

Chickahominy WMA includes tidal creek and river habitat. Its coastal setting does not turn every bank into an approved beach route.

DWR’s general WMA rules prohibit swimming unless otherwise posted. No Chickahominy-specific posted swimming exception was established in this review.

DWR requires dogs to be leashed outside open hunting, chase or training seasons. This is a WMA rule, not proof of a dog beach or unrestricted shoreline access.

Ticketed and member waterfronts

Berkeley Plantation includes self-guided river-shore access for ticketed guests. The exact sandy footprint, shore route and swimming rules remain unresolved; do not treat the estate admission as a verified beach guide.

Berkeley’s operator lists grounds access until 5 p.m. for ticketed guests. This is an estate grounds schedule, not a separately verified beach-opening clock.

Conservation Park of Virginia is a private members-and-guests facility. Its river frontage and recreational amenities do not establish public beach access.

Sources and review scope

Source research reviewed 2026-10-26. This is a desk-research review, not a same-day inspection or an exhaustive shoreline survey. Each named reference retains its authority, activity and arrival scope.
