Leash/area restrictions

General eligibility/base and posted restrictions still apply.

Named facilities
Starfish Point, Sand Dollar Shores and Turtle Trail pavilions each have showers, restrooms and shade according to MCCS. These are eligible-patron beach facilities; precise accessible stalls, operating interruptions and continuous approach routes still require confirmation.

Details & sources
Seasonal guarded area
MCCS provides guarded swimming areas Memorial Day–Labor Day,9 a.m.–6 p.m. daily, and directs visitors to guarded areas only. That seasonal program is not a live duty observation for an October visit; swimming dusk–dawn is prohibited.

Details & sources
North Carolina’s private-parts exposure statute is retained as state-law context. An independent current military beach dress/full-nudity policy and separate female-topless provision were not established from MCCS visitor wording or the unavailable substantive linked order. Base instructions, eligibility, lawful routes and posted dune restrictions still apply; this uncertainty is not clothing permission.

Official route / restriction details ↗Parking, route & accessibility evidence
Parking & entry: Eligible base access. Use only authorized base routes and posted beach parking after installation clearance. Guest Services is BA-275 Beach Road. The reviewed current MCCS page does not provide a beach-specific parking fee, exact ordinary lot roster or accessible ocean-arrival endpoint.
Parking source ↗Accessibility: Exact ocean route unresolved. MCCS identifies ADA-compliant Osprey lodging, not a continuous accessible shoreline route. Exact beach parking, ramp/mat endpoint, sand gap and water-entry chair arrangements were not verified from the current page.
Accessibility source ↗Open the county entrance directory ↗
Use the directory to check each entrance’s identity and status. Guide map pins are approximate shoreline locations, not turn-by-turn entrance directions or proof of current opening.

Base instructions, eligibility, lawful routes and posted dune restrictions still apply; this uncertainty is not clothing permission.
- What this label covers
- Responsible authority names this destination/approach; no exact beach-arrival coordinate was certified. Mainland or office addresses do not become island navigation waypoints.
Beach ownership, the route across land, public shoreline-use rights and access to facilities are separate questions. Rules vary by state and location. Use the identified public entrance or documented permission; neither a nearby resort nor an admission fee by itself establishes that a beach is private. A mapped beach is not permission to cross private property.
Access policy reviewed 2026-10-09. Not a live closure report or a property-boundary survey.
Allowed & prohibited activities
Alcohol: Alcohol rules are not confirmed for this beach.
What still needs confirmation
MCCS cautions against swimming while under alcohol’s influence. A current complete beach alcohol/container rule and any authorized footprint were not established from that caution or RV rules.
Fires and grills: Any permitted fire or grill areas still need confirmation. Follow the restrictions stated here.
What still needs confirmation
MCCS explicitly prohibits fire pits, tiki torches and other contained fires in the RV campground while permitting specified grilling there. A complete ordinary beach-fire clause was not retrieved; campground cooking does not clear shoreline fires.
Overnight camping: MCCS has 33 full-hookup RV campsites and separate lodging for authorized patrons. Campground maximum stays depend on season and availability. A booked RV site is not permission for camping on arbitrary beach sand.
Shore fishing: MCCS requires age 16+ to have an NC coastal saltwater fishing license and separately identifies a base hunting/fishing/trapping/boat-launch permit. Fishing from the dirt road north of the bridge beside the waterway and the island-side pier is currently unavailable during repairs; that is not an ocean-beach closure.
- Hours
- Hours & seasonal limits
Swimming dusk–dawn is prohibited; staffed seasonal swimming runs 9 a.m.–6 p.m.Memorial–Labor. Lodging check-in/out and pavilion reservation times are different facility clocks. General eligible day-visitor beach gate hours were not established.

Conditions at the beach
Local times use Eastern Time. Regional forecasts, tide predictions, observed flags and dated water samples are separate; no current beach safety status is asserted.
North Carolina DEQ recreational water monitoring ↗: exact station, sample and retrieval clocks must match this shore.
Weather, forecasts & tides
No timestamped exact beach weather observation was verified. NWS office routing is independently checked, but a regional forecast or loading widget is not a live entrance observation.
The independently checked NWS planning point routes to MHX and America/New_York. Follow its official forecast link; this routing evidence does not supply a current forecast reading or exact beach observation.
A regional NOAA tide source was reviewed, but an exact beach tide-timing offset and lawful island landing conditions were not established. Inlet predictions do not certify ocean-shore timing or boat-navigation safety.
Use the official MHX beach/rip guidance for this independently routed planning point. Forecast risk is regional and time limited; it is not an observed flag, current tower duty or guarantee of safe swimming.
Closures, flags & water quality
Current exact observed flag, posting time and entrance coverage were not verified. Trusted Traveler is suspended and the named waterway fishing/pier facilities are under repair; these do not certify current swimming conditions.
The fresh Onslow NCDEQ station registry was independently reviewed. No exact station named for this guide was established; Hurst Beach C 11 and Ski Beach southwest-creek estuary records do not automatically bind the Surf City Onslow or military ocean strand. Latest applicable sample/advisory clocks remain unverified, not positive safety or clarity evidence.

Snorkeling & scuba diving
Typical underwater clarity, documented shore snorkeling entry and current visibility were independently unassessed for this exact beach. General swimming/watersports and booked offshore scuba do not establish shore-snorkel permission or visibility.
A local offshore dive operator review identifies Instigator’s Swansboro boat location separately from the Hubert shop. Exact departure/conditions must be confirmed with the operator. This is offshore booked transport, not a verified shore-scuba or snorkeling route at Onslow Beach.
Clothing-optional, nudity & topless sunbathing
Full nudity / clothing-optional: Exact permission not established for this named shore.
Female-topless sunbathing: Separate permission not established for this named shore.
Remoteness and a general nudity provision do not establish separate topless permission.

Water clarity & shore snorkeling
Typical clarity: Not yet assessed. Typical underwater clarity is not assessed for this named shore. Water color, bacterial results and forecasts do not measure visibility.
Shore snorkeling not yet assessed. Typical underwater clarity, documented shore snorkeling entry and current visibility were independently unassessed for this exact beach. General swimming/watersports and booked offshore scuba do not establish shore-snorkel permission or visibility.
Typical clarity describes how easily you may see through the water. It does not establish bacterial water quality, safe swimming, calm conditions or visibility today.
