Rocky Point Beach

A county-managed, 300-foot bay beach at the mouth of Back and Middle Rivers, with seasonal guarded swimming, picnic areas and bathhouse facilities. Beach access is separate from the park’s two boat ramps.

Good fit: A county beach with a published seasonal guard program, picnic areas and a beach bathhouse.

Plan around: Swim only in the guarded area during posted hours. Pets and snorkel equipment are prohibited under the published rules; confirm the summer closing-time conflict.

Parking, route & accessibility evidence

Parking & entry: Paid admission. Use 2200 Rocky Point Road and designated parking. Advance reservations are not required for ordinary daily admission; group picnic and pavilion rules differ. Boat-ramp users also owe the applicable general admission.

Parking source ↗

Accessibility: Route details unconfirmed. The county verifies beach parking, a bathhouse and other facilities, but the exact step-free route to sand or water, mat endpoints and beach-chair arrangements were not established. Ask the park about your required route rather than treating a park trail as continuous water access.

Where to enter
Public county park and beach arrival at 2200 Rocky Point Road, Essex. The two boat ramps are separate launch references, not additional beach destinations.
Fees & reservations

Tax is included and credit cards are preferred. Children in rear-facing car seats are excluded from the general admission age group. Restrictions & exceptions
Vehicles must stay in designated parking. Launching or landing from shore to enter the park is prohibited, and personal watercraft must use the ramp. The page gives conflicting group reservation thresholds of 12 and 20; contact the office about a group visit.
What this label covers
The named coastal shore and its documented arrival. Adjoining private property, current opening, water use and facilities retain separate source scope.

Beach ownership, the route across land, public shoreline-use rights and access to facilities are separate questions. Rules vary by state and location. Use the identified public entrance or documented permission; neither a nearby resort nor an admission fee by itself establishes that a beach is private. A mapped beach is not permission to cross private property.

Access policy reviewed 2026-11-02. Not a live closure report or a property-boundary survey.

Allowed & prohibited activities

Alcohol: Beer and wine are allowed only in designated areas with a park-approved permit obtained at least 10 days before the event. Hard liquor is prohibited. Ordinary beach admission does not grant this permit.

Fires and grills: Use provided grills and put spent charcoal in the designated red cans. No open beach-fire permission is established.

Overnight camping: Overnight beach camping permission is not confirmed.

What still needs confirmation

This guide describes a day-use beach arrival. It does not establish overnight permission, a campsite or sleeping on the sand. Arrange any overnight stay separately with its responsible operator.

Shore fishing: County rules prohibit fishing in beach areas. The separate fishing pier and other lawful fishing areas do not make the swimming beach a fishing spot.

Conditions at the beach

Local times use Eastern Time. No beach observation or saved forecast is displayed here. Forecast issue times, observation times, tide prediction dates and laboratory sample dates remain separate from desk-research dates. A linked source does not confirm current opening, a warning flag or swimming safety.

Weather observation

No exact on-beach weather observation or observation station is assigned here. The linked National Weather Service page provides forecast navigation; a forecast is a prediction, not an observed beach condition.

Responsible source ↗ · Responsible source ↗

Daily forecast

The independently checked National Weather Service point-forecast link is available for this approximate planning point. The returned source is a regional land grid covering an area beyond the beach. No saved numeric forecast is displayed here. Forecast issue and prediction times are separate from source review and are not on-beach observations.

High & low tides

Tidal water levels are relevant here, but an exact-beach tide prediction has not been established. A nearby station is a regional reference, not a landing-depth or beach-timing guarantee.

Responsible source ↗

Surf & rip forecast

This is a tidal bay/estuary outing. No ocean-surf or beach-specific rip forecast is supplied; use the applicable marine and weather guidance rather than an Atlantic surf rating.

Responsible source ↗

Closures & warning flags

Check this park’s current notices before travel and follow posted warnings on arrival. No dated, observed flag feed for this exact beach was verified; a weather forecast is not an observed beach flag.

Responsible source ↗

Water quality

Check Baltimore County’s water-sampling dashboard and Maryland Healthy Beaches for the named location and the sample date. The county response reviewed here contains OFF SEASON AUTO UPDATE notes and September samples; it is not a November swimming-safety report.

Surfing profile

No supported surfing suitability rating is assigned to this bay/estuary shoreline. Swimming permission and a beach photograph do not establish surf quality.

Sources & review date ↗

Beachcombing

No dependable, notable shelling claim was established for this beach. Follow park collection rules and leave living material undisturbed; do not plan a trip around an unsupported shell yield.

No reliable named-beach shark-tooth association was established. No shark-tooth suitability score is assigned.

Snorkeling & scuba diving

Masks, fins and snorkel equipment are expressly prohibited in the Rocky Point swimming area. No verified alternative recreational shore-snorkeling route or offshore departure was established.

No official clothing-optional or full-nudity designation was verified for this named beach. It is excluded from verified clothing-optional filter matches.

Responsible source ↗

Female-topless sunbathing permission has not been independently established here. This beach is excluded from verified topless-permission matches; that question is separate from full nudity.
