VIRGINIA · WATERFRONT RESEARCH
New Kent County waterfront
The county plan distinguishes tidal Chickahominy waters below Walkers Dam from the Pamunkey’s tidal freshwater character. Reservoir and lake recreation are kept separate.
Keep the named place and activity separate
Vandell Preserve at Cumberland Marsh is a Nature Conservancy freshwater tidal-marsh preserve in New Kent with a public boardwalk. Its owner says dogs are not allowed; this is not a beach or water-entry recommendation.
Ware Creek WMA includes saltmarsh and tidal freshwater marsh habitats. Wildlife-management access and hunting rules are separate from beach qualification.
The county plan places Diascund Reservoir access outside New Kent in James City County, and describes Chickahominy Lake access separately. Those lake and reservoir places are excluded from coastal coverage.
