VIRGINIA · WATERFRONT RESEARCH
Arlington County waterfront
Plan a waterfront visit around plane spotting at Gravelly Point, waterfowl at Roaches Run and the Long Bridge Park esplanade. No qualified beach guide is published for Arlington from this review.
Choose your waterfront stop
The directory separates parks, marked paths and boat access from the planned boathouse and historic Arlington Beach site. Use the linked authority for the exact place and activity you intend to visit.
Know the NPS shoreline rules
Swimming and wading from GW Parkway-administered shorelines are prohibited. This applies to those NPS areas and does not establish a blanket prohibition on every Arlington shoreline.
Pets may not enter the Potomac River from GW Parkway-managed areas. Dog-friendly park or trail listings do not establish dog-on-sand or dog-swimming permission.
At GW Parkway sites, stay on designated walkways and trails; an informal riverbank path does not establish a beach arrival.
Keep island jurisdictions separate
Theodore Roosevelt Island is an NPS District of Columbia park. Its Virginia-side parking and footbridge do not make the island an Arlington beach guide.
The NPS Lyndon Baines Johnson Memorial Grove is listed as a District of Columbia park; retain its jurisdiction separately from nearby Virginia approaches.
