Colleton County beaches
For a beach day reached by road, choose Edisto’s town street ends or the separate state-park day-use entrance. Otter and Pine offer protected island shores reached by boat; lawful landing, tides and posted wildlife restrictions need separate planning.

Find your fit in Colleton County
4 published guides in this county. Use the named arrival information first; facility evidence is too limited for a feature-based recommendation. 2 guides have boat-only arrival: plan transport and the lawful landing separately. Feature counts describe documented routes, not all beaches or every entrance in the county.
Start with the named arrivals in these guides; route-specific features are still being verified. Counts refer to beaches with a qualifying named entrance, not every entrance. These are planning details, not current opening or guard duty.
Start with the right shore
Town beach: choose the exact street end for parking and mat information. Atlantic and river-mouth approaches differ. State park: paid admission, picnic-area restrooms and separate camping; beach Accesses 2 and 3 are currently closed and ADA golf-cart beach access is temporarily unavailable. This notice does not close the Town’s numbered accesses.
Boat-access islands: Otter prohibits dogs year round; Pine has a September–March physical-leash exception. Their property map pins are not landings or navigation waypoints. No safe swimming route is asserted.

Edisto Beach
A residential beach town with public street-end approaches, seasonal dog rules and a choice of Atlantic and river-mouth shoreline. Choose the exact access for mats and parking; the state park is a separate visit.
Edisto Beach State Park
An oceanfront state-park beach with paid admission, picnic shelters and separate oceanfront and maritime-forest camping. Beach Accesses 2 and 3 are closed and ADA golf-cart access is temporarily unavailable; check the park notice before traveling.
Otter Island Beach
A protected boat-access shoreline at St. Helena Sound, with year-round dog exclusion and tightly scoped seasonal permit camping. Posted wildlife closures and lawful landings need checking; this is a shoreline visit, not a certified swimming or navigation route.
Pine Island Beach
A separately managed barrier-island beach with daylight visit limits, no camping and a September–March physical-leash dog exception. Use the current SCDNR access map and respect posted wildlife areas; no exact landing or safe water-entry route is asserted.
Keep these planning details separate
Town guidance permits access parking 6 a.m.–10 p.m.; indexed code wording differs, with exact status unresolved. Parking hours are not shoreline opening hours. Park admission, office hours, campground facilities and current beach-route availability have distinct scopes.
South Fenwick, Ashe, Beet and Big/Warren island leads remain held pending exact named beach and lawful-arrival evidence. Boat ramps and fishing docks are not beach parents. Botany Bay and nearby Charleston County shores are separate destinations.
Research and photographs
Forty-five categories were checked for each guide during the October 8, 2026 published-source review. Unanswered facilities, landing, clothing policy, underwater clarity and diving questions retain explicit uncertainty and scoped follow-up. This is not an exhaustive shoreline survey, on-site inspection or same-day opening certification.
Two exact-location archival scenic photos are licensed and credited. Otter and Pine primary-photo gaps remain priority tasks; their placeholders show no substituted beach image.
