SOUTH CAROLINA · COASTAL COVERAGE REVIEW

Berkeley County coastal coverage

Explore the Wando and Cooper river systems through documented waterfront parks and launch routes. Our October 9, 2026 review has not established a qualifying named coastal beach guide here. Daniel Island’s reported small sandy shore remains under review for its exact identity, manager and lawful arrival.

Tidal shores and inland lake beaches are different destinations

Berkeley is one of South Carolina’s eight legally defined coastal-zone counties. Its tidal river recreation belongs in coastal research, but a boat launch or riverfront park is not automatically a beach.

Lake Moultrie’s Lions Beach, Bonneau Beach, Short Stay and Overton, and Lake Marion and Goose Creek Reservoir recreation are inland lake destinations outside this coastal collection. This exclusion does not apply merely because a tidal route is labelled “freshwater”: SC Trails explicitly describes Foster Creek as tidal.

The reviewed SCDES Atlantic Beach Guide inventory returned no Berkeley access records. That is an inventory result, not proof that no beaches exist or that the county shoreline is closed.

Daniel Island: keep the two waterfront parks separate

City park at 101 River Landing

The City of Charleston lists a City-owned Wando River park with trails, a playground and fishing pier. Daniel Island’s Charleston municipal address does not put this location in Charleston County.

POA park at 1 River Landing Drive

Daniel Island’s POA lists its own park, with swings, a hammock garden and fountain play area. Similar names do not establish identical park footprints or permission to cross adjacent shoreline.

A genuine sandy-shore lead

Charleston Waterkeeper’s Swim Guide entry describes a small beach, but its park name and amenities have not been matched to one exact managed sand entrance. This remains a promising lead, rather than a new guide or blanket private-access ruling.

Booked Daniel Island Ferry transport is another separate activity. A ticket or public dock does not grant beach landing or swimming rights.

Choose a river route for its documented purpose

Use the waterfront reference directory to compare distinct launches, parks and a boat-diving trail. Bushy Park’s saltwater and freshwater sides remain separate. Foster Creek’s Naval Reservation banks have an explicit no-landfall instruction; it applies to that route.

Creekside Park’s current City listing describes park amenities and a kayak launch. Its facilities are not a swimming-beach certification. Bettis is a separate Goose Creek Reservoir landing outside this coastal directory; an older landing list does not prove current operation.

Lower Wadboo’s tidal influence and dam-release warning, Quinby’s marsh route and the Cooper River Underwater Heritage scuba trail are separately scoped. They do not establish beach swimming, shore snorkeling or clear water.

Beach choices and remaining shore questions

For a documented coastal beach day, start with Charleston County’s beach guides. Their rules, facilities and access routes apply only to their named locations; no travel time or same-day opening is implied.

Historical leads for Cat Island on the Wando, a Cooper River sandbar and the Tailrace bridge remain unresolved for exact identity and lawful arrival. A 2020 gathering-restriction notice establishes neither a current closure nor reopening. Conservation acquisition at North Island likewise does not establish a current beach entrance.

This is a source-backed inventory review, not an exhaustive shoreline survey or county-wide beach certification. No beach-specific typical clarity, shore or offshore snorkeling route, full-nudity permission or female-topless policy has been established. These questions remain independent; unknown does not mean prohibited.

No neighboring station, observed flag, guard schedule, tide timing or photograph has been substituted. Waterkeeper sampling remains specific to its listed station and separate from swimming safety or access permission. No qualifying scenic beach hero is claimed.
