Choose your approach to the national seashore before choosing a parking area. Apollo serves the northern approach near New Smyrna; Playalinda is approached through Titusville. Neither is a staffed swimming destination.
Our starting recommendation: Choose Apollo for a northern seashore visit; choose Playalinda for a Titusville-side trip only after checking which areas are available. If lifeguards are essential, use our Space Coast facilities guide instead.

Apollo Beach · Canaveral National Seashore
Entrance to investigate: Apollo Parking Area 2
Choose it for: A documented facilities starting point on the northern side.
Tradeoff: Boardwalk accessibility ends at a changing sand surface; no lifeguards.
Checked October 1: the September 25 NPS alert closes the road north of Lot 8, Lots 9–13 and the beach north of the Lot 8 boardwalk, and suspends backcountry hiking permits. Its heading says Lots 8–13 but its detailed wording names 9–13. Lot 8’s own status remains ambiguous: ask NPS rather than treating it as open. Public-access identity is separate from temporary closure.
Apollo Area 2 has documented restrooms and an accessible boardwalk. That does not promise an accessible route across the sand. NPS’s Playalinda place page describes fourteen access areas; do not interpret this as fourteen currently open entrances or override closure notices. Its general ramp wording does not settle individual current ramp conditions.
Klondike is reached on a permitted backcountry hike, not through a road connecting the two beach parking systems. The usual permit program can be suspended; the alert currently does so. Do not plan a through-hike or cross the dunes. Bring water, check park closing and speak to a ranger.
No lifeguard service is available in the park. Rough surf, heat and limited supplies make it a poor substitute for a developed, guarded entrance when those are your priorities. Check fees, permitted hours and current notices before driving.
Selections are editorial advice. Official rules and dated notices have the narrower scopes described above. Conditions, staffing and surfaces can change; these pages do not guarantee current opening or safety. Photographs show the named beach, not every entrance or today’s condition; credits are in each full guide.
