Carteret County beaches

Plan a coastal visit using separately researched municipal beaches, managed parks and boat-access island shores. Each guide keeps its manager, entrance rules and current-source limits in view.

Find your fit in Carteret County

12 published guides in this county. Start with restrooms (3 qualifying beaches), then compare the named entrances. 4 guides have boat-only arrival: plan transport and the lawful landing separately. Feature counts describe documented routes, not all beaches or every entrance in the county.

Use the verified route features below to choose where to begin. Counts refer to beaches with a qualifying named entrance, not every entrance. These are planning details, not current opening or guard duty.

Choose a named shore and arrival

Each named beach retains its responsible manager and separately documented arrival. Island destinations require an independently established boat approach; a visitor-center address or ferry office is not a beach entrance. An oceanfront address, nearby ramp or transport service does not establish a public crossing or permitted island landing.

Use the guide's exact entrance for parking, toilets, rinse facilities, wheelchair arrangements and route endpoints. A wheelchair or boardwalk does not establish continuous access across sand to the water.

Emerald Isle

Emerald Isle is the western Bogue Banks Town destination. Eastern Ocean Regional Access at 2701 Emerald Drive offers parking, restrooms, showers, a picnic pavilion and an accessible facility approach; exact remaining sand gaps are not certified.

Indian Beach — North Carolina

Indian Beach is a Bogue Banks Town with public mapped approaches and separated municipal sections around Salter Path. The planning reference here is the historical NCDEQ/DCM observation at 1437 Salter Path Road, not an invented continuous Town shoreline boundary.

Salter Path Beach

Salter Path Beach is a separately listed county beach-access facility at 1025 Salter Path Road. The published directory schedule is 8 a.m.–5 p.m. daily. Exact current facilities, sand-route accessibility and surrounding shore rules still require entrance-specific confirmation.

Pine Knoll Shores

Pine Knoll Shores has its own arrival and managing authority. Use 345 Salter Path Road. Read the access and operating notes before choosing this destination; protected areas and neighboring beaches remain separate.

Atlantic Beach — North Carolina

Atlantic Beach has separate Town-owned arrivals at the Circle, New Bern Street and Henderson Boulevard. The Circle planning approach is 201 West Atlantic Boulevard; adjacent Fort Macon facilities are outside Town jurisdiction.

Fort Macon State Park

Fort Macon State Park is a separately managed Carteret County ocean and inlet destination at 2303 East Fort Macon Road. Its restored fort, dune and marsh trails, swimming area and bathhouse have distinct visitor schedules and rules.

Radio Island Beach

Radio Island Beach is a separately listed county beach-access facility at 501 Marine Drive. The published directory schedule is 8 a.m.–5 p.m. daily. Exact current facilities, sand-route accessibility and surrounding shore rules still require entrance-specific confirmation.

Harkers Island Beach Access

Harkers Island Beach Access is a separately listed county beach-access facility at 106 Harkers Island Road. The published directory schedule is 8 a.m.–5 p.m. daily. Exact current facilities, sand-route accessibility and surrounding shore rules still require entrance-specific confirmation.

Bird Shoal — Rachel Carson Reserve

Bird Shoal is a named sandy arrival within the Rachel Carson Reserve across Taylor Creek from Beaufort. Reach it by a lawful private-boat or passenger-ferry route; Beaufort launch addresses are separate departure references.

Shackleford Banks

Shackleford Banks is a separately named boat-access Cape Lookout National Seashore destination. Bring necessary supplies and distinguish its beach visit from closed or seasonally operated cabins, docks, visitor buildings and mainland departure facilities.

South Core Banks

South Core Banks is a separately named boat-access Cape Lookout National Seashore destination. Bring necessary supplies and distinguish its beach visit from closed or seasonally operated cabins, docks, visitor buildings and mainland departure facilities.

North Core Banks

North Core Banks is a separately named boat-access Cape Lookout National Seashore destination. Bring necessary supplies and distinguish its beach visit from closed or seasonally operated cabins, docks, visitor buildings and mainland departure facilities.

Check the local rules and conditions

Dog seasons, parking payment windows, shoreline use and guard coverage must match the selected entrance. North Carolina laboratory samples retain their exact station and sample dates; regional forecasts, tides and observed warning flags are separate evidence.

Typical underwater clarity, shore snorkeling and boat excursions are researched independently. Missing evidence is not a positive feature match.

Research scope and photographs

The October 9, 2026 desk review covers 12 published guides and all required guide categories. It is not an exhaustive shoreline survey, on-site inspection or same-day safety check. Unresolved identities and exact approaches remain in the research queue.

Only exact-location photographs with individually verified reuse rights depict named beaches. Historical scenery does not establish present facilities, access or safety.
